Where Are All The Virgin Atlantic Aircraft?

Having compiled a list of where the British Airways aircraft are being stored, I decided to take a look at where Virgin Atlantic aircraft are being stored.

As the details aren’t as readily available online as the British Airways fleet, this list probably won’t be as comprehensive.

I shall try my best however! And much like the British Airways list, I shall attempt to keep the list of the whereabouts of all the Virgin Atlantic aircraft as up to date as possible.

The airline previously announced that they would ground 85% of their fleet. Which leaves around 6 of their aircraft in service.

From the data I could find, it would appear that there isnt a fixed plan with which aircraft are stored. Initially it was thought that the entire A330 fleet was grounded. Yet G-VWAG operated to Antigua on 26th March.

Therefore I’ll list anything at Heathrow as Parked as opposed to stored. The date will refer to the last time that aircraft was active.

For the A330-200 fleet at Doncaster, along with those stored at Manchester, Gatwick and Glasgow, it is safer to assume that they are stored for the foreseeable future.

Update 7/5/20

G-VROY has left London Heathrow and is currently on its way to Glasgow. In addition, Airbus A330 G-VWAG is moving from London Heathrow to Manchester. This was the last A330 to fly with passengers on board at the end of March.

Update: 6/5/20

Following yesterday’s news that the airline would leave London Gatwick, Virgin Atlantic now have to retrieve the aircraft that are still there. Initially scheduled to be heading to Heathrow, both G-VNYC and G-VUFO will join the A330-200’s at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

G-VUFO is scheduled to arrive at 14:00 as VS803P. This will be followed an hour later by G-VNYC as VS807P.

This leaves just G-VGEM parked at Gatwick. As such, that aircraft will be the final Virgin Atlantic departure from the airport.

Update: 5/5/20

G-VROS will position London Heathrow – Manchester today as VS847P. It is scheduled to arrive into Manchester ar 13:00. It has been parked up at Heathrow for just under a month.

Update: 30/4/20

Well, I did say the below information was subject to change! And change is precisely what has happened. G-VAST will position to Manchester tomorrow instead now.

Update 29/4/20

Don’t worry, I’ve not forgotten this post! With Virgin Atlantic having a somewhat settled schedule now, I didn’t see much point in updating it on a daily basis with scheduled flights.

There are a few interesting movements in the next few days however:

  • G-VAST, Boeing 747 – LGW->MAN§
  • G-VROS, Boeing 747 – LHR->MAN*
  • G-VROY, Boeing 747 – LHR->MAN*
  • G-VGEM, Airbus A330 – LGW->LHR*
  • G-VNYC, Airbus A330 – LGW->LHR*
  • G-VUFO, Airbus A330 – LGW->LHR*

§ Scheduled for 30/4/20
*Scheduled for later in the week.

Interestingly, this will leave no aircraft stored at London Gatwick. Make of that what you will.

Obviously, all this info is currently subject to change. Thanks to Airport News UK for the info.

Update 1/4/20

Today, the following Virgin Atlantic aircraft were in operation:

  • G-VJAM, A350 VS613 – LHR-JFK
  • G-VNEW, B787 VS698 – LHR-JFK
  • G-VSPY, B787 VS685 – LHR-JFK
  • G-VPOP, A350 VS23 – LHR-LAX
  • G-VBEL, B787, VS206 – LHR-HKG

I suspect those flights with flight numbers in the 600 range are cargo only flights, but I cant be 100% sure.

Update 31/3/20

Just the three Virgin Atlantic aircraft were in service today today:

  • G-VLUX, A350 VS3 – LHR-JFK
  • G-VBOW, B787 VS23 – LHR-LAX
  • G-VMAP, B787 VS685 – LHR-JFK

And as an added bonus, G-VNYL undertook a test flight this afternoon. This was the first time this aircraft had flown since June 2019.

There is no scheduled flight to Hong Kong today.

Update 30/3/20

Today, the following aircraft operated:

  • Boeing 747-400, G-VROS: VS607P, LHR-LAX
  • Airbus A350-1000, G-VPRD: VS3, LHR-JFK
  • Boeing 787, G-VZIG: VS23, LHR-LAX
  • Boeing 787, G-VOWS: VS685, LHR-JFK
  • Boeing 787, G-VWOO: VS206, LHR-HKG

Update: 29/3/20

It would appear that there is no firm plans to store any specific Virgin Atlantic aircraft. In order to keep them all air-worthy, the 787’s, A330-300’s and A350’s will be rotated.

The airline has recently shifted all operations to London Heathrow. Therefore, a pair of Boeing 747’s (G-VROY/G-VROS) have positioned there in order to cover the routes that have moved over from Gatwick.

In the coming days, just the six routes will be operated:

  • Havana
  • Barbados
  • Antigua
  • New York JFK
  • Los Angeles
  • Hong Kong

It’s highly likely that the 3 Caribbean routes are repatriation flights. Once they are done, the two Boeing 747’s that are currently operating will head into storage, leaving the A350’s and 787’s to cover the 3 remaining routes.
