Virgin Atlantic Cargo have announced today that they will operate between Dublin and London Heathrow.
During April, Virgin Atlantic Cargo operated flights between London – New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Although the flights to the Far East weren’t daily. These flights were operated by Virgin Atlantic aircraft.
For May, the schedule will be expanded. The airline will offer 17 weekly flights between London – New York and 9 weekly flights between London – Los Angeles. Twice a week, the flights from JFK and Los Angeles will stop off in Dublin, before carrying on to London. These flights will be operated by Boeing 787 aircraft capable of carrying 55 tonnes of cargo.
In addition, Virgin Atlantic will continue serve Shanghai daily and Hong Kong 4x weekly.
Returning to the schedule will be Tel Aviv, operating twice a week, along with 3x weekly flights to Johannesburg and twice weekly services to Mumbai.
Currently, Virgin Atlantic Cargo have been using the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350, owned by their parent company for their operations. As yet, they remain in full passenger layout. Other airlines (Finnair and Air Canada for example) have been removing seats from their passenger aircraft. This enables them to carry more cargo in the cabin.
I am amazingly proud of our cargo team and our colleagues across the airline who have enabled us to completely re-engineer our cargo business into a successful freight-only operation. This means we’ve been able to help our customers re- establish trade routes to and from many of their major international markets. I also want to thank dnata, our handling partner in London, for the great work its team is doing to help us accelerate the volume of cargo we are carrying and to expedite connections over our London hub.Dominic Kennedy, Managing Director of Virgin Atlantic Cargo
In the current operating environment, we have the ability to increase our cargo-only services quickly and to flex up our schedules in line with demand. We also expect an increase in customers seeking cargo charters, which we are ready and able to support. We want to play a leading role in getting Britain doing business again as the country looks to re-energise the UK economy.
