Virgin Atlantic actively promoting first A350 Flights

As per the following email I received this afternoon, Virgin Atlantic have now officially announced their first flights with their soon to be delivered Airbus A350-1000.

Flights on our A350 are now on sale. Be among the first to experience our brand new aircraft when it takes to the skies in September 2019** en route to New York.

Of course, there is the following caveat:

**The aircraft’s first commercial service is expected to take place on 10thSeptember 2019 from London Heathrow to New York JFK, subject to change. Check ‘Flight and Cabin information’ for information and confirmation of the aircraft type when booking your flight, subject to change.

One thing missing from the email is the specific flights the type will operate. Although they will be:

VS153 LHR-JFK 1330/1625
VS138 JFK-LHR 1900/0720

While many have found the aircraft in the schedules for a while now, this is the first pro-active promotion from the airline as to where and when the first routes will be to. It wouldn’t have anything to do with another British airline widely publicising their new A350 being delivered over the last few days, would it?!

Just yesterday, the airline put out the following tweet:

A little bit of sour grapes at their long time rival beating them to the post maybe? Or just a bit of playful banter?

The first aircraft for the airline, registered G-VPOP is currently undergoing final preparations for delivery in Toulouse. The airline is widely expected to take delivery of the aircraft in the next week or two.

The aircraft will feature a brand new Upper Class Suite, along with modifications to the airlines’ Premium and Economy cabins.

Virgin Atlantic has a total of 12 A350’s on order, with 4 to be delivered this year. All of which will serve the London Heathrow – New York JFK route initially. The aircraft is a key part of Virgin Atlantic’s fleet renewal, with the airline also due to take delivery of the A330neo in the coming years.

More information about the Virgin Atlantic A350 can be found on their dedicated mini-site:
