Crowne Plaza, Northstar Minneapolis

This Trip:

For my stay in Minneapolis, a downtown hotel was preferred. There was no shortage of options between IHG and Marriott. In the end, IHG won out with their Crowne Plaza Northstar property. One of the more cost friendly options in the city, it was conveniently located between two light rail stations direct from the airport and a short walk to the Nicollet Mall area of the city.

Upon arrival, there was a bit of a wait – which was surprising as it was getting on for 9pm by that point.

Once I was seen to, everything was standard IHG. Status recognised, offered a drink or points and, of course, the old credit card trick “just for incidentals”. Although no mention was made of how much they would be taking. In this case, it was a whopping $100 – madness considering the room didn’t even have a minibar and the on site bar wasn’t exactly upmarket…

The Room

I was allocated a room on the 11th floor.

Upon entering the room, I was immediately greeted with a sink.

Also in this area was a wardrobe – which didn’t contain anything worth taking, making the pre-authorisation amount even more baffling.

Wardrobe

To the right was the bathroom, which also featured a sink.

And the standard US Crowne Plaza amenities.

Amenities

This seemed a little odd, as the second sink was just taking up space. This meant it was a bit tight to manoeuvre into the room itself.

The bedroom area featured a large king sized bed.

At the far end of the room, was a chair.

Seating

Opposite this was a good sized work area, featuring three power points nearby.

Desk

Also in the room was a good sized flat screen TV with a good range of channels.

The WiFi speed was perfectly useable, but not the fastest I’ve experienced.

My Thoughts

The Crowne Plaza Northstar Minneapolis was in a good location and was good enough for the time I was there. But I wouldn’t say it was anything more than that. The beds, towels etc were clean enough however the room I was allocated could do with a refurb. The doors, windows and other fittings have definitely seen better days.
