British Airways has been busy overnight

The British Airways press office has been hard at work overnight it would appear. A couple of bits of interest are:

Airbus A350 services launched to Toronto

The airline has launched A350 services to Toronto. Initially due to be the aircraft’s launch route, as preparations with the aircraft took less time than expected, the airline sent the aircraft to Dubai from early September instead.

Gerard McEvoy, VP Sales, North America, commented:

“We’re thrilled to be launching our new A350 from Toronto, a city we’ve flown to and from for nearly 60 years. The A350 and our new Club Suite business class seat deliver new levels of sophistication, comfort and privacy, and we’re proud to share this with our Canadian customers”.

Toronto has been an interesting route for BA. Over the past few years, the airline has closed their lounge and cut the number of flights to the Canadian city. This has led local carrier Air Canada to take advantage. Having flown both British Airways and Air Canada on the Toronto route to/from London, Air Canada has the far superior product. They have the signature lounge exclusive to business class passengers and until now the superior onboard product. Now that British Airways has shifted their new Airbus A350 on to the route, the onboard product is more or less identical. Both airlines feature the Collins Aerospace super diamond seat.

In the coming Months, the airline will deploy its new Airbus A350 to Tel Aviv and Bangalore.

Enhanced partnership with Malaysia Airlines

Also announced by British Airways overnight was an enhanced partnership with OneWorld parner Malaysia Airlines.

British Airways will place its flight numbers to 14 destinations within Malaysia, including: Alor Setar, Kota Kinabalu, Johor Bahru, Kuching, Kuantan, Labuan, Langkawi, Miri, Penang, Sibu, Kuala Terengganu, Sandakan, Kota Bharu, and Bintulu.

In return, Malaysia Airlines customers will be able to book Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle via London Heathrow on British Airways flights.

There are also plans in place for the Malaysian carrier to place their flight numbers on BA flights to:  Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Brussels, Geneva, Hamburg, Lyon, Toulouse, Paris and Zurich.

The new agreement will be in place from 9th October 2019.
